A team of experts from Delhi is developing an application to eliminate rumors and identify fake news on social media platform WhatsApp. Which will tell whether a message is fake or not. Ponnurangam Kumaraguru, assistant professor at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-D), is leading the team. who is developing the app.

There have been several incidents of mob rage over rumors on WhatsApp in which five people were lynched on suspicion of being child-lifters in Maharashtra’s Rainpada village. Recently, a mob in Bidar, Karnataka thrashed three people on suspicion of being child lifters.

The professor believes that the application will prove useful in the present scenario. Because in the present time many such incidents have come to the fore in which people have become victims of violence due to rumors spread on WhatsApp.

He said, ‘We are collecting a lot of data and have asked people to spread the message on 9354325700 number. This message will be analyzed and accordingly we will make a model to check such message.
